Having the Mind of Christ

Philippians 2:5 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.”

What does it mean to have the mind of Christ?
It means adopting His way of thinking—His humility, love, wisdom, and righteousness—in every aspect of our lives.
When we allow the mind of Christ to operate in our minds, it transforms how we see ourselves and others.
Instead of pride and selfishness, we embrace humility and service.
Instead of anxiety and fear, we lean on God’s peace and trust.
Christ’s mind helps us make decisions grounded in love and truth, guiding us through challenges with grace.
This transformation impacts our lives positively by renewing our attitudes and behaviors.
It leads to stronger relationships, deeper joy, and resilience in trials.
We begin to reflect Christ’s character, drawing others to His light.
Ultimately, having the mind of Christ aligns us with God’s perfect will, bringing purpose and fulfillment.
Let us therefore surrender our thoughts daily to Christ, allowing His mind to shape us from the inside out.

When Christ shapes our minds, He shapes our lives for His glory and our good.

But what happens when we fail to yield to the mind of Christ?
We then operate with what might be called a “mental mindset”—
a mindset dominated by anxiety, fear, pride, confusion, and despair.
This kind of mindset troubles our souls and clouds our judgment, leading to mental unrest and spiritual struggle.

King Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible. He was a powerful king who lived by his own strength and ego.
Nebuchadnezzar was haunted by troubling dreams, rendering him sleepless and anxious (Daniel 2:1).
Instead of humbling himself before God, he arrogantly claimed to be a god and demanded worship.
His pride and mental unrest led to a dramatic fall where God stripped him of his sanity, and he lived like an animal for seven years (Daniel 4:28-33).
His mental mindset—driven by pride and fear rather than grace—resulted in a loss of peace and rationality.
Nebuchadnezzar’s story warns us: when we don’t operate with the mind of Christ, our minds become troubled, restless, and enslaved to fear and pride.
We may grow anxious and act out in destructive ways, separating ourselves from God’s peace.
But there is hope. Nebuchadnezzar’s story also shows us that God’s grace can restore the troubled mind.
When Nebuchadnezzar humbles himself and acknowledges God’s sovereignty, his mind and life are renewed.
Family let us choose daily to surrender our thoughts to Christ’s mind of grace.

Let us refuse the bondage of pride, anxiety, and despair that the mental mindset brings. Instead, may God’s grace transform our minds to walk in peace, wisdom, and love.

Rom 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.(NKJ)

MAY THIS WORD TRANSFORM AND RENEW OUR THINKING PATTERNS

Transformed – to change to another form – to Christ.

Renewing – adjusting one’s thinking to the mind of God.

HOW TO RENEW THE MIND:

MEDITATION
EDUCATION
NEUTRALISATION
THOUGHT CONTROL
ASSOCIATION
LOWLINESS

MEDITATION
Phil 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy– meditate on these things.(NKJ)

Meditation is not emptying the mind but filling the mind with the Word

Meditation is thinking about the Word repeatedly.

The mind is a wondrous and powerful creation of God.
Within it lie the seeds of thoughts, beliefs, and imaginations that influence our words, actions, and ultimately the course of our lives.
Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” This teaches us that what we cherish and dwell on profoundly shapes our character and destiny.
Because the mind is so powerful, we must not allow it to deceive us or to “play games” with our emotions and decisions.
The Bible warns us to “guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23). To guard our heart is to guard our mind—to carefully filter and discipline the thoughts we entertain

EDUCATION
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.(NKJ)
Fill your mind with the knowledge of God’s Word – both preceding and proceeding Word.

When the mind is aligned with God’s truth, promises, and grace, what we meditate on begins to manifest in our lives.
This is not a magical self-made force, but a spiritual principle: as we fix our minds on God’s Word and His goodness, our actions follow, resulting in peace, prosperity, and favor.
Joshua 1:8 encourages us to meditate on God’s law day and night so that we may be careful to do according to all that is written therein, leading to success.

NEUTRALISATION
2 Cor 10:5-6
Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
And being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.(NKJ)

Deal harshly with ungodly thoughts that invade your mind. Expel these thoughts speedily.
Ungodly thoughts causes a “mental mindset” — one dominated by anxiety, fear, doubt, pride, and negative thoughts—.
Such a mindset can cause:
• Mental turmoil and stress, leading to confusion and the inability to hear God clearly.
• Lack of peace, replaced by restless and condemning thoughts.
• Spiritual discouragement and dryness, as the mind becomes distracted or focused on physical discomfort or doubts.
• Manifestation of fear and doubt in behavior, resulting in poor decisions or giving up on God’s promises.
• Physical weakness or burnout, because the mind affects the body and spirit deeply.
the “mental mindset” may amplify feelings of deprivation, leading one to question God’s timing or goodness.
This usually manifests as impatience, irritability, or even despair—emotions that are not from God but from the unrest of the mind.

THOUGHT CONTROL
2 Cor 10:5-6
being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.(NKJ)

Let every thought be subject to Christ.
There is hope. By surrendering our minds to Christ, renewing them through prayer, scripture, and worship, we invite the mind of Christ to take control.
Let us therefore commit to discipline our thoughts and guard our minds .

Let the mind be filled with God’s promises, truth, and love, so that what is in our minds will manifest in our character, righteousness, and blessings.

ASSOCIATION
Prov 13:20
He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.(NKJ)

LOWLINESS
Phil 2:5-9
LET this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
But made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, (NKJ)

Lowliness is a humble mind-set that quickly submits to the voice of God.

Rom 12:3
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. NKJV
1 Cor 4:6
6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.
